Bean Bag Game

Game set-up

Place target boxes 25 1/2 feet apart as shown. (30 feet from the center of holes)

Scoring

The object of the game is to score 21 (twenty-one) points.

A bag that goes through the hole in the target box counts as 3 (three) points.

A bag that lands on the target box counts as 1 (one) point. (unless it is knocked off)

A bag that lands on the ground counts as 0 (zero) points.

If a bag is pushed into the hole it counts as 3 points for the team that owns the bag.

Bags are to be tossed underhanded.

If the score is 11-0, the slaughter rule applies, and the team with 11 points wins.

Rules of Play

When playing doubles:

Teams will consist of the Blue Team and the Red Team. One player from the Blue Team and one player from the red team will stand at either box, across from their partner. To start the game, flip a coin to see which player will shoot first. (For example, let's say the Red Team won the toss) Player A from the Red Team  will then throw their bags consecutively at the target box. When all their bags are thrown, the person standing next to them (from the opposing team and who will be referred to as Player A from the Blue Team) will throw their bags. After all of the bags have been thrown, total all the points for each player. The difference between the two will determine the points scored for that team. (For example, if Player A from the Red Team scores a total of 3 points, and Player A from the Blue Team scores a total of 1 point, you would subtract 1 from 3 (or, cancel the score out), so that the Red Team's new point total is 2 and the Blue Team's new point total is 0.) Now, the players opposite from the ones who started the game (Players B from the Red and Blue Team) will proceed into round two, with the person from the team that scored last going first, and continuing in that fashion until 21 points are reached.

If playing singles:

After determining which person will go first, you would proceed as you would if you were playing in teams: Flip a coin to decide which player will go first. That person will then throw their bags consecutively at the target box. After all of their bags are thrown, the other player (across from them) will do the same. When all of the bags are thrown, points are totaled and then cancelled as described before (above). The person who scored last in that round will then go first, and so on.

Fouls:

The foul line is at the front of the box. Fouls are made when the throwing player passes the foul line with the bag still in his or her hand. All foul bags count as zeros and are removed if they land on the target box.

Sample Game

The Red Team and the Blue Team flip a coin to see who goes first. The Red Team wins, and Player A from that team proceeds to throw their bags. Then, Player A from the Blue Team throws their bags. When they are done, the total is such:

Red Team:    3 points (all three bean bags landed on the target box)

Blue Team:    1 point (one bean bag landed on the target box)

You would then subtract 1 from 3, so that the Red Team now has 2 points and the Blue Team has zero points.

Score for the first round RED : 2   BLUE : 0

The Red Team would then throw first, since they scored last.

Red Team : 3 points (one bag landed through the hole in the target box)

Blue Team : 5 points (one bag landed through the hole in the target box two bags landed on the target box)

You would then subtract 3 from 5, so that the Blue Team now has 2 points and the Red Team has 2 points (from the last round)

Score for the second round   RED : 0   BLUE : 2

TOTAL score after the second round   RED : 2   BLUE : 2

And so on.
